COMPLETE REFERENCE GUIDE
Self-serve dashboards
Everything you need to create, configure, share, and maintain dashboards and charts in DevRev — from your first click to advanced filtering. Any user can build charts on any object, with no queries, no analyst, and no engineering request.
If you can build a view, you can build a dashboard
A dashboard is a group of charts, and each chart maps to a single object. Creating one follows a simple hierarchy: create the chart, choose the object it reports on, pick a chart type, then configure its axes. One dashboard can place ticket, issue, and code-change charts side by side.
The success metric is deliberately concrete: a user should be able to build a dashboard with five or more charts in under fifteen minutes. The experience is designed to feel like creating a view — if you already know views in DevRev, you already know about 80% of what you need.
Self-serve dashboards are schema-driven. When a custom field is added to an object, it becomes available in the chart builder immediately — as a filter, an axis, or a column — with no need to rebuild the dashboard.
Chart types in detail
Six chart types cover almost every reporting need. The first four — table, bar, column, and line — handle the vast majority of cases.
Chart type | Best for | Drill-through? |
|---|---|---|
Table | Flat lists and record-level detail — ID, title, owner, and status in columns. | No — you are already looking at the records. |
Bar (horizontal) | Comparing categories side by side — count of items by owner, severity, or priority. | Yes |
Column (vertical) | Time-based comparisons such as month over month. | Yes |
Line | Trends over time — tickets created versus resolved, or sprint-over-sprint progress. | Yes |
Pie | Distribution of a whole — the percentage breakdown by severity or status. | Yes |
Donut | A whole with a hollow center for one headline figure plus its composition. | Yes |
WHAT'S INSIDE
From first chart to a dashboard you can share
Build and configure
Create charts on any object.
Walk through creating a dashboard, selecting the right object or subtype table, choosing a chart type, and configuring dimensions versus measures on the axes.
Filter and drill through
Scope the data, then explore it.
Understand chart-level versus global filters, how object-aware filtering works across a dashboard, and how auto-generated drill-throughs reveal the records behind any aggregated chart.
Share, schedule, and scale
From personal to team-wide.
Set viewer and editor access, schedule snapshots through workflows, review refresh intervals and the 50-chart limit, and see persona recipes for support, engineering, and CS.
Build the dashboard. Share the insight.
